How we are advancing Sustainability & Circularity
Aistetic’s AI-driven sizing, listing and data enrichment solutions are designed to help cut waste and advance sustainability & circularity in fashion. By directly addressing the issues associated with listings, returns, inventory waste, and underutilised clothing linked to sizing, we enable partners to build more sustainable, waste-conscious business models, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 8 & 12: Decent Work and Economic Growth; Responsible Consumption and Production.
Here’s what we are working on:
1. Facilitation of faster, more accurate listings of preloved & ready-to-wear fashion to enable fashion businesses and individuals to reuse, resell and recycle clothing
Aistetic's AI-powered listing solution enhances circularity in fashion by streamlining the process of listing ready-to-wear and pre-loved apparel. By generating detailed, accurate listings from minimal input, Aistetic enables retailers to increase capacity and reduce operational costs, facilitating the efficient listing of more items. This efficiency is crucial as the global pre-loved fashion market is projected to reach $125.18 billion by 2034, indicating a growing demand for scalable, cost-effective solutions. Through an accessible API and user-friendly dashboard, Aistetic supports both new and second-hand fashion markets, helping brands reduce waste and extend garment lifecycles.
2. Promoting Greater Utilisation and Extended Garment Lifespan
The fashion industry loses over $500 billion in value each year due to underutilised clothing, with more than half of fast fashion garments disposed of in less than a year, Aistetic’s solutions drive a shift towards better-fitting and custom-made clothing, encouraging longer garment lifespans through more wear and reducing the need for fast fashion replacements. With accurate size recommendations, consumers are more likely to purchase items that fit well and suit them, resulting in higher satisfaction and longer garment usage. Aistetic’s AI listing solution for preloved sellers supports the circular economy. More efficient listings help preloved items find new owners, promoting reuse and further extending clothing life.
3. Reducing Apparel Returns
Approximately 2.3 billion apparel returns occur annually, generating a substantial carbon footprint due to the environmental costs associated with courier transport and in-store returns. Aistetic's AI sizing technology uses predictions and mobile-based body scans to enhance size accuracy and fit personalisation. This reduces the likelihood of size-related returns, helping to cut unnecessary transportation, packaging waste, and emissions. Every reduction in returns contributes directly to cutting down the estimated 668 million kilograms of carbon emissions that returns produce annually. By decreasing returns, Aistetic lowers carbon impact and streamlines inventory management, reducing the costs and waste associated with restocking and markdowns.
4. Optimizing Inventory Management and Reducing Write-Offs
An estimated 20% of eCommerce clothing sales is held as inventory, leading to an excess valued at over $100 billion yearly. The burden of this inventory is seen in high write-off rates, with some companies writing off nearly 10% of their stock annually. Aistetic’s data enrichment solution allows brands to optimise sizing and avoid overproduction, meaning less inventory left unsold or discounted at a loss. By helping brands cut down on these write-offs by a targeted 25%, Aistetic can contribute to a substantial $1.3 billion in savings. This reduces financial waste but also minimizes the environmental toll from unsold clothing, which is often disposed of in environmentally harmful ways.
5. Supporting a Sustainable Shift Towards Customization and On-Demand Production
Aistetic’s technology facilitates a move toward responsible purchasing through on-demand and made-to-measure production, allowing brands to better match supply with actual demand and avoid overproduction. This shift is vital to reducing waste since it limits excess inventory and aligns production closer to real consumer needs. By providing more personalised, demand-driven shopping experiences, Aistetic’s technology fosters a more sustainable approach to fashion retail, reducing the extraction of non-renewable resources and helping to keep garments in circulation longer.
With these initiatives, Aistetic is working in partnership to help change customer behaviour and provide partners with a robust path to sustainability in fashion leveraging technology —protecting resources, reducing environmental impacts, and promoting a more circular & sustainable approach to fashion.
